Who We Are

Michelle Fischler MSW, RSW, RP

Director

Experience:

Hello!  My name is MichelIe Fischler MSW RSW, RP.   I am a Registered Social Worker, a Registered Psychotherapist, and a Registered Sex Therapist.  I have been working in the mental health field since 2003.  The majority of my career has been working at a downtown hospital known for their excellence in mental health.  My experience ranges from working with individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness to providing therapy for individuals and couples experiencing major life changes, coping with loss and/or relationship distress.

My Style and Therapeutic Approach:

My personality is friendly, open-minded, warm and curious.  I work best in a relaxed environment and have made every effort for my office to portray this.  My goal is to make you feel relaxed, comfortable and safe.  What we discuss is dependent on your needs and what you feel comfortable disclosing.  We will look at your goals and hopes for coming to therapy and then discuss the best plan to achieve them.

My therapeutic approach depends on the needs of the person or couple I am working with.  Some people benefit from a more structured therapy like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and others prefer a more exploratory approach.  I tend to incorporate a number of elements from a number of different evidence based therapies.

Stephen Biggs MA, RP

Associate

Experience:

Hello! My name is Stephen Biggs, MA, RP. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with over two decades of experience working here in Toronto, having spent most of my career in both the hospital setting and private practice. My practice is broad, with specializations in sex therapy and relationship counselling. I have experience working with a variety of issues related to physical intimacy, sexual expression and relationship challenges including but not limited to coping with differences in libido, infidelity, sexual expression and satisfaction as well as confidence and communication issues. And, I enjoy working with diverse orientations, beliefs and varied cultural backgrounds.

My Style and Therapeutic Approach:

I love my work, and while I come across as pretty laid back (ask my colleagues), I take this job really seriously. It is a privilege to be invited into the personal lives and struggles of my clients. If you are in my office, I want you to feel heard and seen. One of the most important parts of my job is creating an environment that makes that possible. I believe in working collaboratively, and have found that the best treatment plans strike a balance between optimism and realism. And, when it comes to treatment, I don’t believe in one size fits all. While I employ empirically validated techniques with my clients, I believe that everyone’s situation is unique. To that end I think it is important to build relationships with my clients, and gather the necessary information to develop strategies that feel like a good fit.
